I would not reccomend them as a starter faction. Their mechanics are a bit strange, and in battle depend quite a bit on micro. Wood elves have a rocky start and an incredibly easy endgame. It'll be challenge with either of these factions. Orc combat is very much about surrounding and overwhelming opponents with sheer numbers. Orcs are fairly simple all around, but the Waagh AI is annoying. Brettonia also requires a crapload of micro and has some tricky campaign mechanics. Orcs and Brettonia are in a bad palce balance-wise. Chaos are pretty easy, but IMO *incredibly* boring. I've heard Beastmen are rather difficult, but don't own the DLC myself.
